Gravity

Everybody at vidIQ works in the web app, and a lot of it now gets made with AI. Gravity is the design system all of it gets built against, which is what keeps it one product.

Conventions

Othmane and I kept one vocabulary across Figma and code, lean enough that anyone could pick it up without a guide. Nobody had to stop and ask which button, which token, which pattern. The fast path and the right one had to be the same, because a system that slows people down gets skipped, and you do not have one.

Shipping every week

The head of design and product wanted this looked after, and it came down to us as designers to own it. If you saw something in a session recording you pulled a branch, wrote it up, tested it. Everything got a Loom, because hearing someone and watching them point at the thing in the app beats writing it all out, and that moved faster for a remote team working async. Each one tied to a ticket and got a human reviewer. We were shipping every week.

The sweep

Claude ran Playwright across the product and the marketing site and handed back the screens. We already knew most of what was in there, so the meeting over it was a glance. We pointed it at batches of those shots and directed the fixes, and checked what surrounded them in both modes. On the marketing side it turned up every variant of the buttons and the heroes, and the different ways one section had been made over the years. We consolidated that and got it into the library.

Claude Design

The first pass was the tokens and the basic components, then I set up the skills so Claude Design knew the latest version of Gravity. If something updated it was there for the next test marketing wanted to run. Campaign pages get prompted now, and they come out on the system instead of freelancing.

Working with Pat was a pleasure. I really enjoyed collaborating with him at vidIQ, where we worked closely on the company’s Design System. He played a key role in defining our components and design tokens, and his attention to detail consistently improved the quality and consistency of our work.

One of the things I appreciated most about Pat was his patience and openness to feedback. He was always willing to discuss ideas, iterate on solutions, and find the best approach without letting ego get in the way. He is thoughtful, collaborative, and genuinely easy to work with, making him someone you can rely on in both day-to-day work and larger cross-functional initiatives.

I highly recommend Pat to any team looking for a talented designer and a great teammate. I’m confident he’ll have a positive impact wherever he goes.
